Bareilly: In a shocking incident that has come to fore from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, a teacher has been suspended after allegedly harassing a Dalit girl student. The teacher is accused of locking her in a room and making unwanted advances. This disturbing revelation has led to a police case being filed against the teacher and serious charges, including those under the POCSO Act, have been filed.
The incident occurred at a semi-government school in the CB Ganj area, where a Class 7 Dalit female student was reportedly subjected to harassment by the teacher after a test. The teacher is said to have even threatened physical harm when she tried to raise an alarm.

Police initiate action
As a result, the police have initiated the process to arrest the accused teacher. The education department has taken swift action by suspending him. The case is currently under further investigation.
District Education Officer (DEO) Devki Singh said that a committee has been formed to investigate the matter thoroughly. Two female teachers were dispatched to the school for inquiry and their findings confirmed the allegations. Statements from other students were also recorded. Those statements shed light on the teacher’s pattern of misconduct in the past.
Dalit student beaten for touching teacher’s bike
In a similar incident, a government school teacher in Ballia was accused of beating an 11-year-old Dalit student and locking him in a room for touching the teacher’s motorcycle. The teacher, 43, has been suspended after a preliminary inquiry that confirmed the allegations. The student’s mother said her son was abused, beaten and subjected to casteist remarks. Villagers protested and demanded the teacher’s suspension and arrest. An FIR has been filed against the teacher for causing harm and wrongful confinement, with the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act invoked. The school principal has not commented on the incident.
