Karnataka woman tied to pole, thrashed after son elopes with girl from another caste
A case has been lodged under Sections 354(b) (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 506 (criminal intimidation), 34 (common intention), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code.

The Karnataka Police have launched a drive to nab villagers in Haveri district who allegedly tied a 50-year-old woman to a pole and assaulted her after her son eloped with his girlfriend. The alleged incident took place on April 30.
According to the police, the victim’s son was in love with a girl from another caste in the same village for the last two years. The boy belongs to the Maratha community and the girl is a member of the Kuruba community. On April 29, the couple purportedly fled from the village.
Enraged by the incident, the girl’s family members assaulted the boy’s mother, tied her to an electric pole, and assaulted her. They tortured the victim and kept her asking for the whereabouts of her son. The assault reportedly lasted for 30 minutes.
Police officials were alerted about the incident and rescued the woman. Thereafter, a case was lodged under Sections 354(b) (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 506 (criminal intimidation), 34 (common intention), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
