Bhopal. A shameful incident took place on the occasion of Teacher’s Day in Primary School No. 2 located in village Semalkhedi of tribal area Ratlam district of Madhya Pradesh, which has tarnished the dignity of the education world. Assistant teacher Veer Singh Menda has been suspended on charges of appearing in school in an inebriated state and cutting the hair of a tribal girl student. The district administration has taken a tough stand on this matter and has ordered strict action against the accused.

Ratlam collector suspended the accused teacher Veer Singh after the incident. Collector Rajesh Batham said, “Veer Singh behaved contrary to the dignity of the post of a teacher, which is unacceptable. Such indecent conduct of the teacher is against the values of education and for this he has been suspended with immediate effect.” Along with this, the district administration lodged a complaint against the teacher in the local police station and instructions have also been given to register a criminal case against him.

The education department has also reacted strongly to this incident. A senior official of the department said, “Such an incident on a sacred day like Teacher’s Day is a setback not only for the education system but also for the moral values of the society. Strictest action will be taken against such teachers so that such incidents are not repeated in future.”

The accused teacher is still absconding

The accused teacher Veer Singh Menda is absconding since the incident. The local police have registered a case against him and his search is on. Police said that a case has been registered against the accused under sections of the IPC and he will be arrested soon.

On the other hand, the administration has formed a special committee to investigate the incident, which will ensure that appropriate action is taken against any other person involved in the incident. Also, statements of other school staff and children are also being recorded, so that correct information can be obtained about all aspects of the incident. The education department has instructed that in future the behavior of any teacher should be kept under strict surveillance and special awareness campaigns should be run to prevent such incidents.

Speaking to The Mooknayak, tribal activist Sunil Adivasi said, “The prompt action taken by the administration is certainly commendable, but a comprehensive strategy is needed to prevent such incidents. It is extremely important to make teachers aware of their responsibility and dignity, so that they maintain the dignity of their position and set an example for the students. The district administration and the education department are expected to take even stricter action on this incident, to ensure that no teacher can behave like this in the future.”
