Madhya Pradesh: Troubled by caste harassment of teacher, student commits suicide
Why did Amit take this serious step? To know this, The Mooknayak spoke to the family members of the deceased Amit. Amit’s father Alha Prajapati says, “Amit’s class teacher and house master Ajit Pandey used to discriminate against Amit on caste lines in Navodaya Vidyalaya. No right to study. After that we once complained to him (Ajit Pandey) about this matter. Then he started saying, “We scold the child so that he concentrates on studies, brightens his name. Then we told our son Amit was also explained that he (Ajit Pandey) is your teacher. He is like a parent. He teaches for your good only.
Alha Prajapati then adds, “On the morning of 22nd December, my son called and told that father, I am unwell. I have to come home. Then the child’s mother and younger brother went to pick him up, but the child was not discharged. Then, at 12 o’clock in the night, my son was taken home, while we were not informed about it.”
“After coming home, the child told us that Ajit Pandey sir tortured and humiliated us. After coming home, the child also told us that ‘Papa, we will not go to school’. So on the night of January 1, he ended his life by hanging,” said Amit’s father.
Amit’s father also showed a suicide note to The Mooknayak . Some excerpts written in this suicide note are as follows:
“I know you must be feeling very bad. I took this path because I have become very dirty. Inside, I could not shake my dirty habit. I was very stressed that what I Karoon, I was missing Sir. My 4 Guru ji, tell me one thing that if a mistake ever happens, can’t it be forgiven? I think the mistake can be forgiven. I did all this on the advice of Ajit Pandey. I had made a mistake that day, he abused me very dirty, called me very bad, called my parents a beggar. Die, or be hanged.”
It is further written in the suicide note: “After my death, my father will give up alcohol and get Ajit Pandey arrested for the many lives he has ruined.” At the end it was written, “Sorry Papa”, followed by Ajit’s signature and the date 31/12/2022 was also found.
When asked about the administrative action taken by the relatives of the deceased Amit, he said, “We spoke to TI sir through another person to know about the administrative action. Then he told that after registering the case, a high-level investigation is going on.”
The relatives say in a painful tone: “Whatever happens in the high-level investigation, our son is gone. We want justice so that our son’s soul may rest in peace. We demand that if you (the accused) have done wrong. Then there must be punishment.”
The Mooknayak also tried to talk to the teachers of Navodaya Vidyalaya Chirhut Sarra regarding the suicide committed by Amit , but could not talk due to mobile bandh. After that an attempt was made to contact the principal of the school but her phone was picked up by someone else. The answer came on the phone that “Madam is out.” In this way even the principal could not be talked to.
