2 dalit men flogged for plucking chillies in UP’s Kasganj

AGRA: Two Dalit men were allegedly brutally thrashed with sticks by four men from the upper caste for plucking chillies from their field in village Miyuni under Sikandarpur Vaishya police station of Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj district. An FIR has been registered against the four men in the matter, police said on Friday.
Victims Ajveer (25) and Jeetu (22) suffered injuries on their face, back and legs. Neelam, Ajveer’s wife, was also assaulted while she tried to save her husband and her brother.
According to the victims, they had approached the police station after the incident took place on Wednesday. However, they said, they were not sent for medical examination and no FIR was registered. On Thursday, they went to the SP office and showed their injury marks to senior officials there after which the FIR was registered. “We are being pressured for compromise in the case,” said the victims, who work as labourers.
Additional superintendent of police, Jitendra Dubey said, “On being apprised by the victims about the entire incident, the
concerned police station was directed to register an FIR and get the medical examination conducted. The accused men, who
are on the run, will be arrested soon.”
An FIR has been registered on a complaint filed by Neelam against the accused – Kallu, Gopal, Sonu and Rajkumar, under IPC
section 452 (House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504
(intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and SC/ST Act.Neelam said, “Four men barged into my house and thrashed my husband and my brother alleging they had plucked chillies from their field.. They also attacked me. Our lives are in danger.”
