Alleged Shiva devotees beat Dalit youth for installing statue of Ambedkar

Telangana. In Vikarabad, a Dalit man was thrashed by 20 to 25 people wearing yellow and saffron colored gamchha in the presence of the police. Allegedly, Shiv bhakts thrashed the young man so much that he had to be admitted to the hospital. In this case, the victim complained to the police, but the case could not be registered. Seeing this negligence of the police, Dalit organizations started protesting, after which the police registered a case. Although the police have not made any arrest in this case so far.

Devanur village falls in Vikarabad district of Telangana. Naresh lives in this village, who is a Scheduled Caste person. Naresh works as an electrician by profession. He told that “the incident happened on January 31. We were about to install a statue of Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar in the village. During this, Shiva devotees started protesting and beat me up. My brother Prem tried to save me but they also killed Prem. Started beating. Gave dirty abuses in the name of our caste Madiga.
100 people surrounded and beaten
According to information, some people of the Dalit community were about to install Dr. Ambedkar’s statue in Devanur village. The idols were installed by workers of the local Kul Nirmulan Porota Samiti. But the right-wing organization Hindu Vahini opposed it. The Hindu Vahini people started planning to install the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji there. There was a clash between the two groups on this.
In this case, the police officer of Yalal police station said, the attack on Naresh is related to the incident a day earlier. He had a fight with the main accused Narendra. When there was an argument, Narendra told Naresh to stay away, as he was wearing a Shiva Mala. Narendra also lodged a complaint with the police on the allegation of hurting religious sentiments. On January 31, Naresh Yalal was at his work near the police station when a mob of about 100 people thrashed him.
Dalit organization along with villagers staged a sit-in, then FIR was registered
The victim Dalit youth complained about the matter to the police. The police did not register an FIR in this matter. After the incident of fight with the youth, the people of the village staged a sit-in outside the Yalal police station. Made pressure to take action against the accused. After this the police registered the case.

In this matter, the SP of the district said, an FIR was registered in this matter on January 31 at Yalal police station. The victim, Naresh, belongs to the Madiga community. Madiga is a Scheduled Caste. A case has been registered against 9 people under sections of IPC and SC/ST Act. Efforts are being made to arrest in this matter. However, no arrest has been made so far.”
