KATHMANDU – The news that the Dalit community is not getting a camp in the city and urban areas and that they are being discriminated against is being made public from time to time.
Due to people who think that Dalit community people should not be kept in Dera, such discrimination has been in the society. It is unpleasant to hear that there was discrimination in the rural areas, but discrimination was done in the so-called educated urban areas. However, this is what happened.
Even though the issue of common citizens of Dalit community not getting camp has been publicized for a long time, MP Tul Prasad Bishwakarma has made public the issue of discrimination in the National Assembly today.
He said that he could not find a camp for four months after he came to Kathmandu after being elected as a member of the National Assembly. He told the bitter experience that he went to look for a camp at 6 different places, but in the end he was not given a camp after asking about his caste. He said that even when he was a member of the National Assembly, he suffered such pain and asked what would be the condition of the common Dalit community.
Member of Parliament Biswakarma narrated the incident of discrimination that happened to him while narrating the list of how untouchability and discrimination are deep in the society. In the meeting of the National Assembly, MP Tul Prasad Bishwakarma said, ‘After coming to Kathmandu as a parliamentarian, I experienced it directly. For four months I did not find a camp. It was canceled after I was confirmed in 6 places.’
‘When you go to talk, everything will be fine. What do you say when you walk at the end? When I say I am Vishwakarma, he says if he talked to his wife, he should ask his husband. If you have talked to your husband, you should ask your wife. Dera was canceled in 6 places,” MP Vishwakarma said, “Lastly, I am staying in the house of a person belonging to the Dalit community. Such a sad situation exists even now.’
He complains that even in the 21st century, the Dalit community is being discriminated against not only in cities and urban areas but also in rural areas. MP Bishwakarma submitted the fact that the people’s representatives of Madhes state discriminated against the Dalit community and expressed grief over such an incident. He emphasized on making and implementing a plan to end discrimination and untouchability. He complained that there were incidents of caste discrimination in urban areas but no action was taken.
He emphasized that social awareness is necessary to end practices such as lack of running of water and skills and labor of the Dalit community, which have not been implemented even though there are provisions in the constitution and laws. MP Vishwakarma complained that there was not even work that needed to be done on behalf of the government.
