Maharashtra: Demand to set up SIT in case of beating of Dalit teenager

Maharashtra. Videos have surfaced of an incident in Thane district on May 19 when a Dalit teenager protested against an objectionable post on Buddha Purnima. In this video, a mob of 40-50 people first abducted the teenager. Then later stripped him naked and beat him. Not only this, he was made to spit and rub his nose on the road. Its video is now going viral. In this case, the victim’s lawyer has demanded the Maharashtra Police Director to set up an SIT. A total of 12 people have been arrested in this case so far.

A Dalit teenager lives in Kalyan of Khadakpada area in Thane district of Maharashtra. He works as a delivery boy in a food delivery company. In the complaint given by Kishore to the police, it has been said that on May 18, 2023, I was using mobile. During this, an objectionable video regarding Mahatma Buddha was uploaded on a social media handle on the day of Buddha Purnima itself. On this video, people were abusing Baba Saheb and Mahatma Buddha. I objected to that post. After which I was threatened by personal message.
Kishore further said, “On May 19, 2023, at 1 pm, I was threatened by messaging. Around 4 pm, 20-25 people reached my workplace. They took me away. Stripped me and beat me. During this 40 A crowd of 45 people was present. During this I was spit on. My nose was rubbed on the road in front of everyone. People also made a video of this incident.”
In this case, on the Tahrir of the victim’s teenager, against many unknown people including 17 named people, the police have registered sections 143, 147, 149, 323, 504, 506 of the IPC and 3(1), (d) of the SC/ST Act. E), (R), (S) have been recorded. In this case, the police arrested a total of 11 people after the video of the incident went viral. While on May 28 another youth was arrested. So far the police have arrested a total of 12 people.
Advocate Jai Gaikwad, who is fighting the juvenile’s case in this case, has written a letter to the Maharashtra Police Director to set up an SIT in the matter. At the same time, the Director General of Maharashtra Police has given instructions to the Commissioner of Police to take action in this matter.
