Kalaburagi | Head constable dies after being run over by illegal sand transport tractor: murder suspected

Kalaburagi, June 16 2023 : It has been reported that an on-duty head constable died when a tractor that
was carrying illegal sand ran over near Hullur check post under Nelogi police station in Jevargi taluk.
Kalaburagi district in-charge minister Priyank Khar has ordered an investigation into whether it was an accident or whether illegal sand traders killed the tractor.
Head Constable of Nelogi Police Station, Mayura Chavan (51), a resident of Chaudapur Tanda in Afzalpur Taluk, died. It is said that Mayura went on a bike around 10 pm on Thursday night for inspection due to illegal sand transportation. Later, his dead body was found stuck in the tracks of a tractor that was transporting illegal sand.
Responding to this, District In-charge Minister Priyank Kharge said that he has already called the District Collector and the District Superintendent of Police regarding the incident and has ordered an investigation.
The minister has condoled with the family of the deceased police constable and assured that the government will provide appropriate compensation soon.
“This incident has taken place even though the revenue and police departments have already been directed to take strict action to prevent illegal marulu transportation in the district. In this context, I have once again given a strict order to the concerned police department to take legal action against illegal marulu farming,” he said.
Kalaburagi District Superintendent of Police Isha Pant said that the death of head constable Mayura Chavan will be investigated whether it was an accident or murder.
