Schools not giving sex education
The Mooknayak spoke to subject experts regarding the increasing sexual crimes in the society, mental disorder in children . Dr. Rajkumari, Assistant Professor of Sociology, considers the uncontrolled use of OTT platforms and smartphones etc. in homes as an important reason. Rajkumari says that the children of 8th class who go for tuition have also started keeping smartphones. Parents give them smart phones for collecting notes and study material etc. but children are not using it wrongly and watching porn content – they do not take care of this.
On the condition of anonymity, the principal of a private school in Udaipur says that with the increasing openness in the society, sex education needs to be imparted from the primary classes. Still teachers do not effectively talk openly to children about sex, pornography etc., in government schools such exercises are almost non-existent.
High school teacher Jeeta Rajagopal says that despite strict prohibition, even children of small classes use smartphones. In Paytm, parents are told many times to allow limited use of the phone by the children and also be careful about what they search. Parents should openly talk to their teenage children and tell them about the ill effects of pornography.
