Inspector suspended for beating up sweeper in Varanasi
During cleaning in Lallapura area of Adampur zone, the woman threw garbage from the top of the house when the garbage van arrived. The garbage sweeper fell on Pradeep, the angry sweeper asked the woman to come under the house and throw the garbage. When there was an argument between the sweeper and the woman over the throwing of garbage from the top of the house, the woman pretended to be the sub-inspector’s wife. When the matter increased, the woman complained to the inspector husband about the indecency of the sweeper. On the call of his wife, Inspector Nilesh Saroj, posted at the Kotwali police station, reached Lallapura and along with his fellow policemen took the sweeper Pradeep to the Kotwali police station. After taking them to the police station, they thrashed them with sticks and rods and then took action under section 151 and sent them to jail.
When the sweeper, who was released on bail, reached the divisional hospital, the fellow employees expressed their anger by reaching the Municipal Corporation. All the scavengers mobilized and sat on a dharna demanding action from the Municipal Commissioner and the Municipal Health Officer. Municipal Commissioner Shipu Giri assured to take action against the accused inspector after talks with the District Magistrate and Police Commissioner. Late in the evening, Police Commissioner Ashok Mutha suspended the Inspector and handed over the investigation to the Deputy Commissioner Kashi Zone.
