Madhya Pradesh: Dalit elderly man held hostage and beaten for not greeting with folded hands, case registered
The victim was going to the ration shop to get ration from his home, when people from the upper caste started beating him when he did not salute with folded hands.

Bhopal. Cases of caste attacks on Dalits are often reported in Madhya Pradesh. The latest case has come to light from Chhatarpur district. Here an elderly Dalit man was beaten up by bullies just because he said “Namaskar” to the upper caste people with folded hands. did not do. The old man alleges that he was held hostage and beaten for 3 hours and then released. After the incident, the elderly man was unable to even walk in his injured condition. After which the family members reached the SP office carrying the victim in their lap. After the complaint, the police have registered an FIR in the matter.
What is the whole matter?
According to the information, a 59 year old man living in village Udaipura of Khajuraho police station area was beaten up by Akhilesh Dubey and Ramji Pandey, also living in the village. The victim told the police that he was going to the ration shop to get ration from his house, the route of which passes in front of the house of the accused. When the victim reached there, he came to know that the ration shop was closed. While returning home, Ramji Pandey and Awadhesh Dubey told the Dalit elder on the way that ‘How dare you pass by us and not greet us with folded hands’. Saying this, both of them took the old man hostage and started beating him.
The victim says that he was first held hostage and kept in a room and the accused kept beating him for three hours. Meanwhile, the accused also used caste based words. He was tied and beaten on the soles of his feet. For this reason he is not able to even walk.
The victim’s wife says, “The bullies in the village harass us a lot and sometimes they even stop us from going out of our house wearing slippers. My husband was tied and beaten for three hours and he is not even able to walk. After the incident, we had also called 100 dial police vehicle but the miscreants had chased away that too.” Fearing this, the victim instead of reaching the police station, went straight to the SP office and started demanding action in the matter.
The family members including the victim reached the Superintendent of Police office with the complaint. On the instructions of Chhatarpur SP Amit Sanghi, Khajuraho police station registered a case against the accused under various sections. SI Markandey Mishra has told that an incident of assault on an elderly person has come to light. On the complaint of the victim, a case has been registered under various sections including assault and atrocity. The search for the accused is on.
