Lucknow. Someone damaged the statue of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar in Ambedkar Park, Ujhani, Badaun, UP, which sparked anger among the people of Dalit community. Angry people along with women and children blocked the Bareilly-Mathura highway. During the jam that lasted for about two hours, ADM Administration VK Singh and SP City Amit Kishore Srivastava assured the protesters of getting a new statue installed. After the assurance of SP, the jam was cleared. In this case, the police have also registered a report against the unknown.

According to the information, someone damaged the statue of Ambedkar in the park at night. Hundreds of people, including Ambedkar Park Committee Chairman Dhirendra Kumar, gathered in the park. When the crowd increased, they blocked the intersection in front of the park. Women sat on the highway among the slogan-shouting protesters. The protesters raised the voice of installing Ambedkar statue at the park and the highway square.

SDM SP Verma and CO Shakti Singh reached the spot. ADM Administration VK Singh and SP City Amit Kishore Srivastava talked to the protesters. BSP leader Hemendra Gautam, committee president Dhirendra Kumar and Bhim Army workers also participated in the talks. Seeing the anger of the followers, police forces from nearby police stations were also called to the spot. The forensic team also took samples from the statue and its surroundings.

The anger of the protesters subsided when the officers assured that a new statue would be installed in the park and that the park would be protected. Hundreds of vehicles traveling towards Bareilly, Mathura, Delhi etc. remained stuck during the jam for about two hours. At present, police have been deployed at the intersection including the park. SDM told that a new statue will be installed in the park.

Women blocked the highway 

After the Ambedkar statue was found broken, the people gathered in the park pushed the women of the society and children of the family forward before blocking the Bareilly-Mathura highway. Initially he did not show any anger, but after the crowd increased, he covered Ambedkar Square in anger. Only women sat on the highway to create traffic jam. The children pulled the police stand post. Along with this, an attempt was also made to put up a board at the intersection for the construction of Ambedkar Chowk.

When there was a jam on the highway at around 10:30 in the morning, local workers of BSP and Bhim Army demonstrated over the demolition of Ambedkar statue. BSP leader Hemendra Gautam reached the spot along with district level leaders of the party. He also had talks with police and administrative officers. After this, at 12:15 pm the protesters agreed to move away from the highway.
