Uttar Pradesh. In Agra district, a constable has been accused of raping a Dalit nurse and then hanging her. This is not the first case when the uniform of UP Police has been stained. Recently, a girl preparing for UPSC had made serious allegations against the ATS SP of rape and abortion. Earlier, a retired inspector in Deoria district was accused of rape for four years on the pretext of marriage. In this case, the accused inspector was arrested and sent to jail. If we look at the recent statistics of National Women’s Organization, then the statistics of crimes related to women are also testifying to this. More than half of the cases of crimes related to women in the entire country have been registered in UP. This is a big question on the law and order and justice system of UP. However, the police have registered a case in the case that came from Agra district. The police have arrested the accused and sent him to jail. Police is taking further action.

Learn about the case in detail?

A Uttar Pradesh Police constable posted at Chhatta police station in Agra district allegedly raped and strangulated a 25-year-old Dalit woman nurse to death. According to the information received by The Mooknayak, the victim was a resident of Hamirpur district. In this case, ACP RK Singh told The Mooknayak that Constable Raghavendra is originally from Jhansi. He was living in a rented house in Belanganj area of Agra. Both knew each other already. The girl worked in a kidney center in Gurugram.

ACP said that acting on the complaint of the woman’s family, the police arrested the accused constable on Sunday. According to the victim’s brother, both of them had taken nursing training in Jhansi and were in contact since then. He said that we had also gone to Raghavendra Singh’s house to talk about their marriage, but his family had rejected our marriage proposal. Even after this Raghavendra was in touch with my sister.

In this case, the family members have accused the constable that he was raping the girl for a long time on the pretext of marriage. Family members say that when their daughter talked about marriage, the constable strangulated her and hanged her body. According to information received from the police, the woman’s body was found hanging from the ceiling of the rented room of policeman Raghavendra Singh on December 29. In this case, a case of abetment to rape and murder has been registered against the accused constable.

According to the police, the woman had gone to the constable’s rented room in Agra a day before the incident. Chhatta’s Assistant Police Commissioner (ACP) RK Singh said, ’27-year-old police constable Raghavendra Singh, posted in Agra, has been arrested in the murder of a Dalit woman. The body of the woman was found hanging in her rented room in Belanganj area falling within the limits of Chhatta police station. The officer said that Raghavendra Singh had reached his office on the day of the incident, but had left from there early. Later he informed his colleagues about the incident. ACP said that Agra Police has registered a case against the constable under sections 306, 376 of IPC and SC/ST Act. The cause of death has been found in the post-mortem report as hanging.

Cases when the uniform got stained

On December 26, in Salempur of Deoria district, the police registered a case against a retired inspector for raping a woman on the pretext of marriage for four years and sent him to jail. The police took this action on the complaint of the victim woman. In the complaint given by a woman resident of a village in Kotwali area, it was alleged that the retired inspector kept raping her for four years on the pretext of marriage. When the woman started pressurizing him for marriage, he went back on his words. The woman became upset and filed a complaint demanding action. The police registered a case against the accused retired inspector Azhar Khan son of Mohammad Iyar Khan under several sections including rape.

Recently, a girl from Lucknow accused the ASP of ATS of rape and abortion. The girl had told The Mooknayak that she was preparing for UPSC in 2018. Then he met PPS officer Rahul Srivastava. Rahul Srivastava had asked the girl for help. According to the girl, the officer called her in 2019 on the pretext of giving her research work and study material, raped her, took nude photographs and blackmailed her. The girl complained about this to several higher officials two months ago but no hearing took place. After which the girl posted the incident on social media and wrote, “ATS ASP Rahul Srivastava has physically abused me.” The victim alleged that “she has been making rounds of the DGP, ADG Law and Order and the Commissioner for two months, but the FIR has not been registered yet.” The victim had now appealed to the Chief Minister for justice. However, in this case the ASP had termed all the allegations as baseless. Woman IPS is investigating this entire matter.

National crime statistics against women are shocking

The National Commission for Women (NCW) registered 28,811 complaints of crimes against women last year. Of these, about 55 percent were from Uttar Pradesh. According to NCW data, the number of cases related to right to dignity stood at 8,540. After this, 6,274 complaints of domestic violence were registered. According to the data, complaints of dowry harassment were 4,797, complaints of molestation 2,349, complaints of police indifference towards women 1,618 and complaints of rape and attempted rape 1,537. According to the data, 805 complaints of sexual harassment, 605 of cyber crime, 472 of stalking and 409 of honor crime were registered.

According to the data, the highest number of complaints were registered in Uttar Pradesh at 16,109. After this, 2,411 complaints were registered in Delhi and 1,343 in Maharashtra. Similarly, 1,312 complaints were registered in Bihar, 1,165 in Madhya Pradesh, 1,115 in Haryana, 1,011 in Rajasthan, 608 in Tamil Nadu, 569 in West Bengal and 501 in Karnataka. The figures show a decline in the number of complaints has been seen since 2022, when 30,864 complaints were received, the highest since 2014.
