Uttar Pradesh: Dalit crematorium captured, women surrounded the collectorate!

Dalit graveyard captured in Kaushambi district of UP, women surrounded collector office. A case of Dalit oppression also came to light in Buxar.

Published on: 17 Mar 2024, 4:56 pm

Uttar Pradesh: Women mobilized in a locality of Manjhanpur municipality of Kaushambi district over illegal encroachment of the cremation ground of Dalits. Collectively the women reached the DM office on Friday and appealed for justice from the officers. After which the Additional Magistrate in the DM office took the application and asked the SDM to investigate and take action.

More than a dozen Dalit families, including Sumitra Devi and wife Ram Naresh, live in Hazratganj locality of Manjhanpur municipality. There is 1 bigha land located in the locality, land account number 1238, Gata number 1842. Dalit community has been performing the last rites and burial of their family and ancestors on this land.

Woman Sumitra Devi told The Mooknayak that, “Haroon son Moharram Ali, a resident of Azad Nagar locality, along with his people, is encroaching on the cemetery land by pouring soil. Earlier, action was taken against him in land mafia number 61020101001/2021. After this He is also taking over the land by moving his people forward.”

The victim and other women collectively reached the DM office and submitted an application before the officer, demanding that the land be freed from illegal encroachment by taking action against the accused. DM Rajesh Rai has taken the application from the women and sent the investigation to SDM Manjhanpur through Additional Magistrate. The DM has assured the women that if the matter is found true after investigation, legal action will be taken against the accused person.

Dalit crematorium in Buxar

erected on the wall

The anger of the people of the Dalit colony erupted over the siege of the crematorium of the Scheduled Settlement located in Maharaura village of Dumraon sub-division of Buxar district of Bihar. A large number of people arrived and stopped the wall construction work and demolished the wall. The people of the angry colony created a ruckus regarding the matter.

Let us tell you that the work of pouring soil and construction of wall was being done at the Scheduled Caste cremation ground located on the western road side of Shiv Mandir in Maharaura village. In fact, the villagers here say that their ancestors have been burying dead bodies at this same place for decades. But the land mafia has sold the said land in the scheduled settlement located in Maharaura village. It is alleged that the buyer of the land has tried to erase the existence of the crematorium by pouring soil on the permanent structure built in the crematorium. During the protest, the wall built to cordon off the land was demolished.

During this time, after breaking the wall, the angry people have applied to Dumraon CO and Police Station Head and requested for justice. In this regard, Circle Officer Shaman Prakash said that applications have been received from the villagers. The matter is being investigated minutely. If the said land is for cremation ground, it will not be allowed to be cordoned off.
