34 thousand girl students of MP are not getting the benefit of Gaon Ki Beti and Pratibha Kiran Yojana, not even a single application from Niwari!

The aim of these schemes run by the state government is to motivate daughters towards higher education. The benefit of the Gaon Ki Beti Yojana is available to those girl students who live in rural areas and who have obtained first division in the 12th examination.

Bhopal. Thousands of higher education students in Madhya Pradesh are not getting the benefit of the state government’s two major scholarship schemes, Gaon Ki Beti and Pratibha Kiran Yojana. The Higher Education Department has made a provision to provide a scholarship of Rs 500 per month under these schemes to the girls doing graduation after 12th. Its purpose is to encourage girls from rural and urban areas for higher education, but despite this, this amount has not been deposited in the bank accounts of more than 34 thousand girl students.

Although the objectives of the schemes are commendable, their implementation has not been completely successful. Records have not yet been prepared in new districts of the state like Mauganj, Pandhurna, and Maihar. The result is that the applications of 30 thousand 461 girl students are pending and they have not received their scholarship.

The situation in Niwari district is even more worrying, from where not even a single application has been filled. Apart from this, 11235 girl students had applied under Pratibha Kiran Yojana, but 3907 girl students could not get its benefit till last year.

Report sought from government colleges

To improve this situation, the Higher Education Department has now sought a report from the principals of all government colleges in the state. This report is necessary to investigate why the girl students could not get the benefit of the scheme and how to implement it. There is a consideration to extend these schemes to girls studying in private colleges as well, but no concrete decision has been taken on this yet.

Objective and benefits of the schemes

The aim of these schemes run by the state government is to motivate daughters towards higher education. The benefit of the Gaon Ki Beti Yojana is available to those girl students who live in rural areas and who have obtained first division in the 12th examination.

Pratibha Kiran Yojana is for those girl students who live below the poverty line (BPL) in urban areas and are pursuing higher education. Under these schemes, a scholarship of Rs 500 per month is provided to each girl student, which amounts to Rs 5000 annually.

How to get the benefit of the scheme?

Girl students can avail the benefits of these schemes by following the following steps:

1. Application process: Every year the Higher Education Department announces the date of application for scholarship. During this time, students have to apply by visiting the scholarship portal.

2. Approval of the Principal: The application of the students is approved by the Principal of the concerned college.

3. Amount Deposit: After approval, the scholarship amount is deposited directly into the bank accounts of the students.

This is an incentive scheme, so its beneficiaries can also avail benefits of other government schemes.

Conditions necessary to avail the benefits of the scheme

Village daughter scheme

The girl applying should be a resident of the village. She should have at least 60% marks in the 12th examination. She should be doing graduation from a government, private college or university.

Pratibha Kiran Scheme

The student applying should be an urban resident. The student’s name should be in the list of people living below the poverty line (BPL). She must have scored at least 60% marks in the 12th examination from an urban school. She should also be doing graduation from a government, private college or university.
