Uttar Pradesh: Dalit teenager dies during treatment a few days after rape
Police said the accused tied her hands and mouth and left her in a seriously injured condition in a millet field.

Pratapgarh (UP): A 16-year-old Dalit girl, who was allegedly raped by a man in Pratapgarh, has died during treatment in a hospital. Additional Superintendent of Police (West) Sanjay Rai said the teenager was held hostage and raped on Sunday last week.
“The accused tied his hands and mouth and left him in a seriously injured millet field. He was admitted to SRN Hospital in Prayagraj, where he was undergoing treatment and died yesterday evening,” Rai said .
On the complaint of the victim’s mother, the police have registered a case against the accused Anil Gupta under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, SC-ST Prevention of Atrocities Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
He said that the 22-year-old accused was arrested on Monday after an encounter with the police. He said that murder charges have also been added in the case. Police said that after the post-mortem, the body has been handed over to the family.
