Bhopal. A case of assault and threats to guest faculty to make them join RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) came to light in Government Arts and Commerce College located in Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh. After the allegations of Professor Dr. Ramjas Chaudhary in this case, Jabalpur High Court heard the case and ordered strict action against the accused teachers, police officers and college administration.
What is the whole incident?
The incident is of 12 September 2024, when Dr. Ramjas Chaudhary was attacked in broad daylight while returning home from college. After this, when the victim complained to the police, instead of taking action, he was harassed even more. Now in this matter, the High Court has ordered to register an FIR against Sidhi SP Ravindra Verma and Majhgawan police station in-charge Deepak Singh. The court has also issued notice to the college principal and the Higher Education Department, as well as scheduled the next hearing of this case on 5 January 2025.
Professor Ramjas Chaudhary said that on 12 September 2024, when he was waiting for a vehicle to go home from college, three people armed with weapons came to him and attacked him in public. He said that he was seriously injured in this attack and had to be admitted to the hospital for treatment. Police came to the hospital, but the police used the word “unknown” instead of naming the accused.
There was pressure to join RSS
Victim Dr. Ramjas Chaudhary told that in October 2023, a teacher of the college, Dr. Suresh Kumar Tiwari, pressured him to attend an RSS meeting. Dr. Chaudhary opposed this and flatly refused. After this, he started receiving continuous threats.
He says that in February 2024, he was locked in the college bathroom for half an hour, after which his condition became very bad. After this, another threat was given in May 2024, in which it was said that “Now see what happens next.”
According to Dr. Chaudhary, in July 2024, six people barged into the college principal’s cabin and threatened to kill him. These incidents escalated when he was attacked in public on September 12.
Ramjas Chaudhary also alleged that when he approached Majhgawan police station in-charge Deepak Singh with his complaint, instead of helping him, he abused him and made him sit in the police station for four hours. After this, when he complained to Sidhi SP Ravindra Verma in August 2024, he not only ignored his complaint, but also tore the application and threatened that if he came with the complaint again, he would get him locked up in the police station. Chaudhary applied 10 times during this time, but no action was taken.
Dr. Ramjas Chaudhary, while filing a petition in the High Court, said that not only did the police officers not take any action on his complaint, but the college principal dismissed him from the job the very next day. When he filed a petition in the High Court against this dismissal, the court issued a notice to the college administration and the Higher Education Department.
The High Court gave the order
The High Court took this matter seriously and has ordered to register an FIR against Sidhi SP and Majhgawan TI. Apart from this, the court has also talked about taking action against the college principal and the Higher Education Department. The court has also ordered that a case be registered against the accused under appropriate sections and strict action should be taken towards providing justice to the victim.
The victim, Dr. Ramjas Chaudhary, has presented photographs of his injuries in the court, which prove that he was severely beaten. He also alleged that the police and the college administration showed deliberate inaction on his complaints, due to which the crimes against him increased. He said that if the police and the college administration had taken timely action, this situation would not have arisen.
