Another woman ‘raped’ in Moheshkhali

A housewife was allegedly raped by miscreants in Kalamarchara union of Cox Bazar’s Moheshkhali upazila early yesterday, days after a teenager was gang-raped there.

Around five people stormed into the victim’s house in the early hours. They first tied down the family, and then tortured them. At one stage, one of the intruders raped the housewife. They also took away Tk 3.45 lakh in cash, said Mohammad Kaisar Hamid, officer-in-charge of Moheshkhali Police Station, quoting the victim’s family.

Following the incident, the victim was rushed to the Upazila Health Complex.

Her husband filed a case against 5 unnamed persons at Moheshkhali Police Station over the incident.

“Some of the miscreants have been identified. Drives are on to nab them,” the OC added.

Meanwhile, a team of Rab-15 arrested one of the prime accused of a case filed over gang-raping a teen girl in Chakaria’s Bodorkahli union on Sunday.

Md Farooq, 27, son of Gias Uddin of the union’s Tutiakhali Para, was arrested from Koyarbeel area, said Additional Superintendent of Police Kamruzzaman, senior assistant director (legal and media) of Rab -15.

According to the victim’s statement, she was abducted at knifepoint on Sunday and gang-raped by around 8-10 men around 10:00pm near the Bodorkhali bridge while returning home in Moheshkhali from Chattogram’s Banshkhali upazila, according to OC Manjur Kader Bhuyan of Chakaria Police Station.

Following the incident, the victim’s father filed a case with Chakaria Police Station, accusing six.

Accused Mohammad Tajum alias Tajul Uddin, 22; Amit Hasan, 25; Tarek Zia, 21; and Md Kajal, were arrested from various places before the case was filed.

Md Choton, another accused, has been absconding since the incident, said OC Manjur.
