The body of a Hindu police constable was discovered hanging in Rasulpur area of Satkhira Sadar Upazila, raising questions about the circumstances of his death.
The deceased, identified as Anupam Kumar Ghosh (26), was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his rented home early Sunday morning, according to Satkhira Superintendent of Police Monirul Islam. Anupam was the son of Ashish Kumar Ghosh from Durgapur Khormkhali village in Chitalmari Upazila, Bagerhat. He was serving as a constable at Satkhira Police Lines and lived with his wife in the rented house.
Satkhira Sadar Hospital’s emergency duty officer, ABM Akhtar Maruf, reported that “at around 3 a.m., a man identifying himself as ASI Zahid admitted Anupam to the hospital.” However, when contacted, ASI Zahid denied admitting Anupam, stating he had only heard of the incident.
The discrepancy over who brought the body to the hospital remains unresolved, with ASI Zahid unable to explain why his name was recorded in the hospital’s entry log.
According to Superintendent of Police Monirul Islam, Anupam died by suicide around 2:30–3:00 a.m. by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his home.
However, Dr. Maruf stated, “We did not observe any marks on the victim’s neck during the initial examination. The exact cause of death will be determined after the autopsy.”
Anupam’s father, Ashish Ghosh, expressed disbelief, stating, “My son was polite and well-mannered. He was one of my two children. I am traveling to Satkhira to receive his body.”
The incident has added to a series of mysterious deaths and suicides among police personnel in recent months, prompting further scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding this case.
