Dalit girl beaten up in Bihar’s Darbhanga, condition critical, threat to settle the matter in panchayat

Darbhanga: A case of assault on a 14-year-old girl from the Dalit community has come to light when she went to fetch water from a pond in Madhupur village of Kamtaul police station area of Darbhanga district of Bihar. It is alleged that some youths from the Muslim community assaulted her. Due to this, her back broke.
The victim’s family says that after the incident, they filed an application in the police station, but no FIR has been registered till now. The victim’s family alleges that through the village panchayat, pressure is being exerted on them to settle the matter by taking two lakh rupees. Also, they have been threatened with death if they complain to the police.
According to the report of Navbharat Times , after the news appeared in the media, DSP Sadar 2 Jyoti Kumari took cognizance of the matter late in the evening and assured justice to the victim’s family. She said that the girl’s statement has been recorded. The matter will be investigated and strict action will be taken.
Victim Seema Kumari’s father Lal Bachchan Musahar told in his application to the police station that on March 30, his daughter had gone to fetch water from the pond, where some youths chased her and abused her and beat her up when she protested. The girl was badly injured and her back was broken.
After the incident, the local people took the injured girl to Jaale Referral Hospital with the help of her family members, where she is undergoing treatment. According to the family members, Seema is now unable to get up from the bed and her condition remains critical.
The family has named 10 people including Mohd. Javed, Hansi Ahmed’s son, Saddam as accused. It is alleged that the accused are constantly threatening by making casteist remarks. The victim’s family said that the accused said that ‘you are from Musahar caste, you cannot do anything, if you complain, we will kill you.’When the granddaughter went to defecate, she was beaten up. The girl’s back is broken and she is unable to walk. Lying on the bed, Seema said that the people present near the pond asked her to leave from there, but as soon as she came out, seven people together beat her and broke her back. She has demanded strict action against all the accused.
Police officials say that considering the seriousness of the case, the investigation is ongoing and appropriate legal action will be taken against all the accused soon. The victim’s family is angry as the FIR has not been filed till now and they are waiting for justice.
