A 32-year-old man was sued for attempting to rape a fifth grader in Thakurgaon’s Baliadangi upazila last night.
The victim’s father filed the case, accusing Jewel Rana of the same upazila, said Inspector (Investigation) Dibakar Odhikari of Baliadangi Police Station.
Citing locals and the case statement, the inspector said, the victim, aged about 11, went to a field near their house for collecting grass for their cattle.
The accused forcibly took her into a nearby maize field, and attempted to rape her while holding a scythe to her neck, the inspector said.
As she screamed for help, the girl’s father, who was working in a nearby crop field, rushed to the spot and rescued his daughter, while Jewel fled the scene.
Police are trying to arrest the accused, he added.
When contacted, Dr Waheduzzaman Sojib, resident medical officer, told The Daily Star this morning that the girl was admitted last evening and is currently in stable condition. She is expected to be discharged this afternoon.
