Police took action in the case of alleged gangrape of a minor Dalit girl in Prayagraj; 22-year-old arrested, minor detained

Uttar Pradesh: The Prayagraj police have arrested a 22-year-old man and detained a minor in connection with the alleged gangrape of a minor Dalit girl. The incident reportedly took place on May 2, but an FIR was registered recently after the intervention of senior police officials.
According to a police officer, the victim accused two persons of sexual assault in her statement before the magistrate . The two suspects, who are neighbours of the girl, include the arrested person and the detained minor. Action has also been taken against another minor in the case.
Police said a case has been registered against seven people, including two minors and five adults. These include some women as well. The role of other accused is being investigated.
The victim’s family alleges that she was on her way to the market when one of her friends took her to a house where the accused were present. There she was allegedly sexually assaulted. The same night, the accused dropped her near her house and then fled.
The girl reached home and told her family about the incident, following which they lodged a complaint with the police. The victim has been medically examined, and the report is awaited.
