UP: 20 years imprisonment to the accused of raping a 5 year old Dalit girl, family also behind bars!

Special POCSO court of Jhansi sentenced Bharat Yadav to 20 years imprisonment in the case of rape of a minor, two members of his family also sentenced.

Uttar Pradesh: The special POCSO court in Jhansi on Thursday sentenced 32-year-old Bharat Yadav to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a five-year-old Dalit girl in 2020. Judge Mohammad Niaz Ahmed Ansari also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the convict.
According to Ajay Kushwaha, special public prosecutor of the POCSO court, the incident took place in the ITI area of Sipri Bazar police station area on October 13, 2020. The accused Bharat Yadav, who was the victim’s neighbour, took the girl, who was playing outside her house, to a secluded place and raped her. The victim’s sister rushed to the spot and raised an alarm, due to which the accused fled.
When the victim’s parents went to Bharat Yadav’s house to protest, Bharat, his father Gyan Singh and brother Balveer Singh assaulted and abused them. A police complaint was filed against the three under rape, POCSO Act and SC/ST Act.
During the trial, Bharat Yadav was found guilty of rape, while Gyan Singh and Balveer Singh were held guilty of assaulting and insulting the victim and her family. Judge Ansari sentenced Gyan Singh and Balveer Singh to three years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 7,000 each.
