Bihar: Police of Lalmatia police station of Bhagalpur district, on receiving information about liquor being kept in Nathnagar Pasi Tola of the police station area, reached there and created such a ruckus that all the villagers got angry. Villagers allege that during the raid, the policemen misbehaved with women, beat men and children without any reason. The incident is said to have happened last Sunday night at around 8 o’clock.
Rajni Bharti, a resident of the same colony who now lives in Delhi, told The Mooknayak , “My sister Jyoti Bharti (52) had gone to see my mother whose leg was fractured. The police raided the house at night. They were beating women and children. When my sister came out of the house and stopped the policemen from doing so, a little while later the police started beating my sister and dragged her away.”
“All the policemen are Bhumihars – from the inspector to the sub-inspector. The policemen were abusing the women in very bad words. When Didi asked them, they got angry and said that these people of a lower caste were stopping us. They came after an hour and dragged Didi by her hair to the police station. They kept her in the police station the whole night. Didi’s clothes were torn and her body was naked,” Rajni told The Mooknayak .
Rajni told that her house is in the same area where the police raided in Bhagalpur. But she herself lives in Delhi now. When this incident happened, her brother told us. Rajni told that, “The police have registered a case of attempt to murder against Didi. What kind of a way is this to drag and humiliate an old woman like this…! Her only mistake was that she asked questions about the beating of children and women…? She is still in police custody. The police have arrested about 15 to 20 people, all of them are from the Dalit community.”
gunjan kumari
Minor innocent Gunjan Kumari, who was present at the time of the incident, told a media persontoldThat, in front of her, her mother was kicked several times by a policeman. Gunjan breaks down while describing the scene of the incident.
It is worth mentioning here that not a single woman police officer was involved in this raid. All the police action was carried out by male policemen. They are also accused of misbehaving with women. Eyewitnesses believe that this is also the reason for people’s anger.
prema devi
Prema Devi, who was injured in the brutality of the policemen, says, “They forcefully opened the lock of the house and beat everyone. They also beat us with sticks 2-3 times. They beat my brother-in-law so badly that his leg is broken.”

Ashok Choudhary
During the incident, Ashok Chaudhary, who was standing in a grocery shop, was also not spared by the policemen. Ashok suffered injuries on his hand due to the beating by the police. However, Ashok had nothing to do with this matter.
Bhagalpur’s City DSP-2, Rakesh Kumar, while giving information to the media on the incident, said, “In Pasi Tola, a raid was conducted at Ravi Choudhary’s residence on the information of liquor being kept there. When the police team reached there for the raid, his family members pelted stones at the police. In this stone pelting, three of our jawans have been slightly injured.”
When asked by media persons that during the raid, a girl was slapped by the police and people became angry, City DSP-2 refrained from saying much and said, “I do not know about it.”
