Nalgonda (Telangana): A case of social boycott has come to light after an inter-caste marriage in Chityala Mandal. It is being told that in the month of April, a Dalit youth married a girl from the Yadav community, after which the controversy arose.
After marriage, the couple left the village and started living in another area. But on April 16, people of the Yadav community allegedly called a panchayat and passed a resolution in the meeting that the Dalit family would no longer be employed as drummers, laborers or drivers in the village.
Palamooru Nagarjuna, who is the state vice-president of the Anti-Caste Discrimination Committee , alleged that elders of the community have signed the resolution. According to him, this move is an insult to the dignity of Dalits.
Nagarjuna also said that the police have not taken any action so far on the incidents of violence and harassment against Dalits in Chityala mandal.
He said that a complaint was lodged in this regard at the Chityala police station, but the police did not take any concrete action. Apart from this, he has also submitted a memorandum to the sub-inspector of Chityala, demanding registration of a case against the accused under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act .
