Sanatani Jagaran Jote seeks army deployment
The Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagaran Jote, an alliance of leaders from Hindu community, has identified over 700 Durga Puja mandaps throughout the country as vulnerable.
The alliance leaders said this at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity yesterday. Of those, Satkhira tops the list with 55 mandaps marked as risky, alongside others in Cumilla, Chattogram, Gazipur, Mymensingh, and Rajshahi, they said.
The alliance has already submitted the lists to the government and urged the government to deploy army and install CCTV cameras at all mandaps to ensure security.
Pradeep Kanti Dey, a representative of the alliance, said, “Since the army is already assisting the civil administration in maintaining law and order, their presence during Puja will help ensure peaceful celebrations.”
Prosenjit Kumar Halder, another representative, presented a written statement outlining an eight-point demand to safeguard religious minorities.
