Auraiya – A brutal incident involving a Dalit family has unfolded in a village in the Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh, presenting an ugly picture of society. The entire family was “punished” for protesting the molestation of a young woman. Unruly men barged into their home, brutally assaulted them, and, in a show of government and caste pride, threatened to kill them.
The victim’s family alleges that the accused openly declared, “This is our government, the Chief Minister is ours.” Following the incident, the police are also reluctant to register an FIR, forcing the victim’s family to appeal to higher authorities in the hope of justice.
The molestation of a Dalit girl in the district’s village of Bharsen, and the subsequent family dispute, has taken a serious turn. The victim’s family alleges that members of the opposing party not only sexually assaulted the girl, but also threatened to kill her family members by beating them in a mob. The most serious allegation is that the accused, claiming power and caste dominance, are openly threatening to shoot them.
When the copy of the complaint written by the girl and the photos of the victim families went viral on social media regarding this matter, Auraiya police denied the case and said that the dispute between the two parties was due to the firecrackers burnt by the children on the night of Diwali, in which both the parties fought with each other and got injured.
According to the victim, her neighbor, Kshitij alias Heeru alias Veeresh, casts lewd glances at her and makes obscene gestures. Out of fear, poverty, and caste pressure, the family did not oppose this. On October 20th, at around 7:00 pm, when the victim went to the fields to relieve herself, Kshitij suddenly grabbed her, grabbed her private parts, and molested her. She ran home crying and informed her mother about the incident.
The victim’s father then complained to the accused’s family. However, the opposition, in turn, accused him of making false accusations, taunting him about his “Chamar” caste, and saying, “It’s our government, the Chief Minister is ours, what’s your status?” Then, at around 10:30 p.m., a group of nine men arrived at the victim’s home armed with pistols and sticks.
The attackers broke the door and shouted, “Teach these scoundrels a lesson today, kill them.” They beat the victim’s brothers Deepak and Sushil and another man and created an atmosphere of terror. The victim stated in her written complaint that the accused declared that if they wanted to live in the village, they should keep their heads bowed, otherwise they would be shot in public. They threatened, “Now the Bahujan Samaj Party government will not come to power in the state, only our Yogi will remain, only Thakurabad will remain.” Many people in the vicinity witnessed the incident.
According to the victim, a report was filed at the police station, but the station in-charge only ordered a medical examination and refused to register an FIR. She alleges that the police are taking the matter lightly and are yielding to the pressure of the accused. The victim has now appealed to higher authorities for justice.
Journalist Gaurav Pal shared the victim’s written complaint on x, along with photographs of the injured family members, and wrote, “The situation of casteism in Uttar Pradesh has become such that when people of Bharsen Kshatriya caste of Auraiya beat up Dalits, no FIR is registered. Why is the police shying away from taking action against people of the Chief Minister’s caste? The family alleges that their case was not registered and they were chased away from the police station.”
