New Delhi: Krishna Kohli is the first Hindu Dalit woman to become a senator in Pakistan. In 2018, he contested from Sindh region on behalf of Pakistan People’s Party and won. However, there are very few people who know more about Krishna Kohli. At the same time, Krishna’s life is very inspiring to the people. Krishna comes from an environment where there was no practice of education. Despite this, Krishna is at such a stage today that it is not a matter of everyone to achieve.
Actually, Krishna belongs to the Kohli tribe. It is a tribe where women and young girls rarely get primary schooling. In such a situation, becoming a MP from this tribe is a big achievement in itself. Krishna Kohli had done this feat and was elected a Senator in Pakistan in the year 2018.
Bonded labor
Krishna was born in 1979 and belongs to Tharparkar, Pakistan’s largest desert, where women love themselves. The women here draw water from a well 300 feet deep. At the same time, Krishna was thrown into bonded labor on the farms of a local zamindar in his childhood.
Master’s degree
According to Krishna, ‘We did not have electricity, so I used to study in the light of an oil lantern’. She got married when she was in 9th grade. However, it was Krishna’s good fortune that her husband helped her get her further education. Krishna earned a master’s degree in sociology.
At the same time, Krishna campaigned against harassment at the workplace, gender-based violence and bonded labor. As a senator, she now wants to implement laws that are designed to empower women.
