The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) on Thursday organised a massive rally on Kozhikode beach in protest against the Kerala government’s decision to hand over Waqf Board appointments to the state’s Public Service Commission. The event was called ‘Waqf protection rally’ by the IUML.
Inaugurating the rally, Muslim League‘s high-power committee member Panakkad Syed Sadiqali Shihab Thangal said his party would continue its struggle against the Pinarayi Vijayan government if it tried to trample upon the rights of the Muslim community enshrined in the Constitution.
Muslim League national general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty warned the left government that the rally was just a reminder to the government that Muslim League was not organising a protest for the first time and also not for the last time.
According to Kunhalikutty, the issue is not just leaving the Waqf Board appointments to the PSC, but about robbing the rights of the institution.
