Dalit woman repeatedly stabbed

Nagpur: A 45-year-old dalit woman, Vaishali Goswami, was stabbed thrice by two unidentified persons at a desolate place near Wanjari Nagar dargah on Friday. Cops are clueless on the motive behind the assault.
Goswami, a former nursing attendant, tried to run after being slashed. “After a fall, I again tried to flee but was chased and stabbed. They could not stab me further as I was close to the shrine and many were present,” she said.
The incident took place while Goswami was returning to her residence at Joshiwadi. Ajni police have registered an offence.
On January 12, the Goswamis claimed to have been attacked by their neighbour with whom a friendly relation had soured over a monetary dispute. The neighbours had allegedly barged into the residence of the Goswamis.
Despite their complaint, Ajni police had initiated no action.
Goswami said police are trying to shield the neighbour. “In the past, police ignored our complaint of assault under the Atrocity Act. This time they are saying the neighbours are not behind the attack,” she said.
“The attackers asked whether I was still interested in money while stabbing me repeatedly. They were on foot and had masks on. The voice was unfamiliar,” said Goswami, a mother of two.
Senior inspector MS Ambhore of Ajni police station said the investigation is under way.
