Woman dies after tubectomy, family alleges negligence
POSTED ON MARCH 14, 2022

JAISALMER: A 24-year-old woman died due to the alleged negligence in tubectomy at the Chauhatan CHC in Barmer district. Irked over the incident, the Dalit community and her family members sat on a dharna with the body on Sunday.
The deceased’s family members alleged that the woman died due to the carelessness of the doctor.
Her father-in-law filed a report against the doctor and the ANM. The woman is survived by three sons and the youngest son is 2-month-old. The camp where the woman had registered herself had been organised by an NGO, FRHS India, and after the incident, they ran away.
Geeta, 24, a resident of Navtala Jetmal, went to the Chauhatan CHC camp on Saturday for sterilisation. Around 50 women were sterilised in the camp. However, during the Geeta’s operation, her BP went down and her health deteriorated. Doctors tried to treat her at the CHC, but there was no improvement and she was referred to the district headquarters. But she died on the way and doctors declared her dead at the government hospital in Barmer.
The deceased was from the Dalit community. Former pradhan Udaram Meghwal and other leaders reached out to the family members of the deceased and Meghwal said the body will not be lifted till they get justice.
They alleged that Geeta had died at Chauhatan CHC and her body was sent to Barmer just as formality.
Chauhatan SHO Bhuttaram Vishnoi said the family members had given a report against the doctors for carelessness and had refused to take the body.
“The matter is being investigated. I spoke to doctors and they said her health suddenly deteriorated during sterilisation and she was immediately referred to Barmer after the initial treatment,” he said.
Additional CMHO Satta Ram Chaudhary said body was in the mortuary. The postmortem will reveal the reason of death, he said.
Geeta got married five years ago to Kumbharam Meghwal, a resident of Ranasar Kala, and had three children. Her sons are aged 2.5 years, 1.5 years and 2 months.
