Rajasthan: Attack on Dalit elder sleeping in the house with sword, accused former policeman
Rajasthan. Reports of murder and harassment against Dalits and Adivasis are continuously coming to the fore from the state. The latest case is of Baldevpura village of Sadar Hal police station in Bundi district, where on the evening of May 7, an elderly person sleeping in the courtyard of the house was attacked by his own neighbor. The neighbor attacked the elderly Sukhdev Meghwal (65) with a sword on both feet. In which one leg was completely separated from below the knee. In the injured condition, the victim has been admitted to the district hospital for treatment. The doctors gave first aid and referred the case to Kota so that there was no bleeding. Plaster has been tied on the severed leg of the elderly. Whereas, there is a deep wound on the other leg, which is undergoing treatment.
“All the housemates were sleeping in the courtyard at night when four people came. One of them, with a sword in his hand, attacked my dad’s legs, and in one stroke amputated his leg below the knee. When dad shouted, we got up. When they ran to catch the attackers, they were seen running by jumping the wall. This is to say that Kishanlal (38), whose father’s leg was severed by his neighbor attacked him with a sword.
Sukhdev Meghwal’s elder son Kishan further explains about the incident that on the night of the attack, his father and the whole family including the three brothers and their children were sleeping in the courtyard of the house. At around 1:30 in the night, the sound of father’s screaming came. When we got up and ran, we saw that the father had been attacked with a sword, and the neighbor Ramchandra Gurjar with his three sons – one with a sword in his hand, was running by jumping the wall. When he saw his father, one of his legs was completely separated, there was a deep wound in the other leg too. We made arrangements to take him to the hospital immediately. After which he was referred from the district hospital. Now he is undergoing treatment in Kota, and the condition remains critical.
Kishan explains that, this whole incident has happened due to the land dispute. About 10 years ago there was a fight over a land and its route. But after the passage of all this time, there was never any dispute. “We never imagined that the neighbor Ramchandra Gurjar would carry out such an incident over such an old dispute,” Kishan said.
When asked about the action of the police regarding the incident, Kishan says that the accused Ramchandra Gurjar himself is a retired policeman, and he is well known in the police station, due to which the policemen are not even taking proper action. “The accused are still roaming freely and we are making rounds of the police station. On the other hand the condition of our father is also very critical.
Kishan says with an emotional heart that “Sir, we are from a low caste, so this has been done to us, and the police harass us only. But, if we had done something like this, these people would not have allowed our entire family to live.
On the incident, SI Rajendra Singh of Sadar police station told The Mooknayak that, based on the statement of the victim, this incident happened at around 1:30 pm. In which one leg of the elderly Sukhdev Meghwal was amputated, and the other also has a deep wound. A case has been registered against the accused Ramchandra Gurjar and his sons and further action is being ensured.
The Mooknayak spoke to Bundi SP Jai Yadav regarding the matter . He said that the matter is under his notice. A case has been registered against the named accused and further action is being taken.
