Man held for vandalizing Hindu temples in Gaibandha
Local authorities pledge to beef up security and ensure punishment for perpetrator

Police have detained a man for vandalizing four Hindu temples and the idols inside in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha.
Residents of Hindupara village of the upazila caught Ariful Islam in the act and turned him over to law enforcement officials on Monday night.
The vandalized places of worship included two Lakshmi temples, a Kali temple and a Shiv temple.
Gobindaganj Upazila Parishad Chairman Abdul Latif Pradhan, UNO Md Arif Hossain and police station OC Ijar Uddin visited the temples on Tuesday.
They pledged to beef up security in the area and ensure punishment for the perpetrator. Each temple also got Tk10,000 for repair work.
The OC, quoting locals, said Ariful vandalized the temples with a stick and a sharp weapon after going there on his motorcycle.
Later, they dialled 999 and sought the help of the police, leading to Ariful’s detention.
A case had been started in connection with the vandalism, added OC Ijar.
