Gujarat: Upper caste students thrash Dalit student after getting scholarship, case filed

Gujarat. In an engineering university in Rajkot district, a Dalit student was beaten up by fellow upper caste students. In the case, the student has lodged an FIR on February 10, 2023. Whereas, the university management kept on denying information regarding the matter. However, after the FIR, the matter caught fire, after which the university management issued notices to the accused students and summoned them for Monday. Police is probing the other matter.

Darshit Bhai Hareshbhai Makwana (20), a resident of New Tora Krishna Park Street No. 3, is a second year IT student at Marwari Engineering University in Kuvdwa area of ​​Rajkot. Darshit Makwana comes from Scheduled Caste society. Darshit Makwana said, “I have got a free-ship card from the government to study free of cost. My admission is done on zero fee. Sujal Ashokbhai Narodia and Nandankumar Gami study with me. They belong to Swarna caste. Six months ago today when I was in my class, my classmates Sujal and Nand Kumar Gami had a fight over my zero fee studies.They were telling me that- You have got a free-ship card from the government, so you You are studying otherwise you are not fit to study in this university.

Darshit further explains, “On 9th February 2023, I was standing outside my class. Ravi, an ex-student of our university came up to me. Started asking me about me and also threatened me. He was threatening to kill me. After some time, he left from there. Around one o’clock in the afternoon, when I was going to the canteen for lunch, Ravi and Sujal came to me and again threatened to kill me and left.”

Darshit says in scared words, “On February 10, 2023 at 9 am I was in the university. Sujal and Nandan Kumar Gami were talking about me and making fun of me. I didn’t pay attention to that. At half past one in the morning It was ten o’clock. I didn’t feel well and started going back home in my Activa. Then Sujal and Nandan Kumar came from behind with a car. Ravi was also present with them. They put the car in front of my Activa. Everyone They got out of the car with sticks and rods and beat me badly.”

“The four men beat me badly with sticks. Sujal climbed on top of me and started hitting me on the face, which rendered me unconscious. When he regained consciousness, he went to his father and narrated the incident,” said Darshit. .

Darshit said, “My father met the HOD and talked about the incident. I was having body pain so called 108 ambulance. My father took me to Rajkot government hospital in the ambulance and admitted me. My treatment Its going on.”

Police registered FIR on the complaint of the victim

On last February 10, 2023, a case has been registered against Suraj Narodia, Nandkumar Gami, Purav and an unknown student in the Kuvadwa police station on the Tahrir of the victim student under sections of assault and SC / ST Act. The police is investigating the case.
