Dalit farmer vows “My only daughter’s wedding is going to happen, sir!”

Uttar Pradesh. In Ghaziabad district, the wedding procession of the only daughter of a Dalit was stopped by alleged upper caste people of the village. They stopped the groom from getting on the mare for about two hours. When the relatives of the Dalit daughter protested against this, they thrashed the family members of the daughter along with the baraatis. Several people were injured in the scuffle, and relatives who had come to the wedding panicked. The relatives informed the police about the matter. After which heavy police force had to be deployed in the village. The procession could take place under the supervision of the police. Police have registered a case in this matter and started searching for the accused.

Ramprakash’s son Itwari Lal lives with his three sons and only daughter in Lalpur Dehamafi village of Marhara area in Etah, UP. According to Ram Prakash, on 22 February 2023, the marriage of my only daughter Shashi was fixed in Ghaziabad. The baraati reached the village with pomp and show. When the band started playing on the night of 22 February, the baraatis started dancing and singing. When the bridegroom and Barati proceeded to the village, the Thakurs of the village itself started protesting. He said – ‘The procession will not go to the village.’ And stopped the procession from moving forward.
Tension spread in the village on stopping the procession
People of Dalit community gathered in the village after hearing about Ramprakash’s only daughter’s procession not going to his house. He again took the procession forward to climb the procession. After this people from other side also gathered.
Ramprakash told, “When we asked them not to do so, they started abusing the baratis and the people of the house. They entered the wedding and removed the DJ’s wire and started saying ‘This village belongs to Thakurs, here the …. The procession will not take place.’ I begged him with folded hands and feet in front of him. I said – ‘It is my only daughter’s wedding procession, it will be a big insult sir!’ But they did not agree and started a scuffle with us. After some time some of their men came with sticks and rods and started beating the baraatis.”
“The wedding procession from Ghaziabad got scared seeing all this. Around eight to ten people were injured in the fight. There was chaos in the wedding procession”, said Ram Prakash.
Police arrived on information, the village became a cantonment
The matter was informed to the police station. As soon as the information was received, the police station reached the village. Despite this, those who stopped the procession were not afraid. The regional police station called for more police force. The whole village was converted into a camp. After this, in the presence of the police force, the procession could enter the village.
Protesters beat up the wedding processions after the police left
Ramprakash says, after the police left, they again thrashed him. The attackers included Karu s/o Munnalal, Vivek and Kaushal s/o Dimpy, Tinnu s/o Rajkumar, Bobby s/o Omveer, Tinku s/o Bunty and Shivam s/o Biresh Sikarwar from Thakur fraternity, all residents of the village.
In this case, on the Tahrir of Ramprakash, seven people have been booked under IPC Section-147, 452, 504, 506 and Section 3 (1) (d) (d) and 3 (2) (v) of the Scheduled Castes and Tribes Act. Case has been registered under.

In this case, the station in-charge Marhara said, “A case has been registered on the complaint of the victim under relevant sections. So far one accused has been arrested. Efforts are being made to arrest the remaining other accused.”
