Alleged rape of intellectually challenged girl in Kurigram, youth arrested

An allegation of rape of a mentally challenged girl has been found in Rajarhat of Kurigram. The girl was rescued and admitted to the hospital in critical condition. In this incident, the girl’s father filed a case in Rajarhat police station as the plaintiff. In this case, a young man named Rubel Mia was arrested and sent to jail through the court.
According to police and case sources, on Monday afternoon, Rubel Mia called a girl from the neighboring village to her house and raped her by tempting her for marriage. On receiving the news, the girl’s family rescued her from Rubel’s house and admitted her to Kurigram Sadar Hospital. On that night, local people and family members of the victim girl found Rubel in the village market and beat him up and handed him over to the Rajarhat police station. Later, the girl’s father filed a case under the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Act at the Rajarhat police station, and Rubel was arrested in that case.
Confirming the truth of the incident, Rajarhat police station officer-in-charge Abdullahil Zaman said, ‘On Monday night, people arrested a person on the charge of rape and handed it over to the police. Following the complaint of the victim girl’s father, we sent the person to jail through the court on Tuesday. The girl bled profusely due to the rape. He was rescued and admitted to Kurigram Sadar Hospital in critical condition on Monday night. Currently, blood is being given to his body.’
The girl’s father said, “As my daughter is intellectually disabled, the rapist took her to his house by luring her into marriage and after raping her, chained her outside the house.” Then he tried to escape to Dhaka in the dark of night. The people beat him up and handed him over to the police. My daughter is lying in a hospital bed. He is still bleeding. I want justice for the person involved in the rape incident.’
Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Kurigram Sadar Hospital Shahinur Rahman said that the girl was admitted to the hospital last night in critical condition. His body was bleeding profusely. He is undergoing treatment at the hospital. The matter of rape can be confirmed only after the examination is completed by forming the board tomorrow.
