Uttar Pradesh: Dalit journalist taken hostage and beaten, victim makes serious allegations

On the complaint of the youth, a case has been registered under the SC-ST Act against four people who assaulted him and three people including the petrol pump operator have been arrested.

Uttar Pradesh. In Jalaun district, the owner of a petrol pump called a Dalit journalist, tied his hands, locked him in a room and beat him mercilessly. Also, to register a fake robbery case against him, they forcibly put a pistol in his waist, after which the police was informed. When the police took cognizance of this matter and investigated, it turned out to be the opposite. On the complaint of the youth, a case was registered under the SC-ST Act against the four people who assaulted him and three people including the petrol pump operator were arrested.

In this case, the journalist has also accused the police station officer of changing the complaint. Whereas SHO Divya Prakash Tiwari says that all the allegations made are baseless. The police have conducted a fair investigation and taken action in this matter. In this case, SP Jalaun Iraj Raja said that the journalist was being wrongly implicated. The police took impartial action and sent the accused to jail.

The said incident took place in Gohan police station area of ​​Jalaun district. Victim Dalit journalist Ashish Kumar tells The Mooknayak, “A few days ago, I had published the news about the rigging happening at the petrol pump. After this, I got a call from the petrol tank manager Ashu alias Shailendra Singh. He said that do not report against the petrol tank. Play. When I didn’t listen, he started making calls to other three people. After which, on the advice of my acquaintance Devendra Soni, I went to Ashu’s petrol tank. On the pretext of having food, he called me to the room. Two people were already present in the room. After which he started beating me, abusing me and threatening to kill me. Another person had also come with me, but he ran away from the spot.”

Illegal gun planted to trap

Ashish Kumar further said, “To trap me, the accused put an illegal pistol in my waist and also made a video of it and made it viral. When the police investigated it, the whole matter turned out to be false.”

The victim told that a video of the beating was also made and made viral. After this the police was informed. As soon as the information was received, Inspector Divya Prakash Tiwari, in-charge of Gohan police station, reached the spot, took cognizance of the matter and tried to find out the reality. During investigation, it was revealed that the youth had come a few days ago to fill petrol, on which he had complained about shortage.

In this matter, Madhogarh CO Shailendra Kumar Bajpai says that after taking cognizance of the viral video, it was investigated, this matter is of January 5, 2024. Petrol pump operator Shailendra, along with his associates, beat up the young man. In which a case has been registered against 4 people including the petrol pump operator. In which the pump operator and his two employees have been arrested. Also, efforts are being made to arrest others. The whole controversy was about reduction. He said that this matter is being investigated.

Ashish Kumar has also made serious allegations against the police in this matter. Ashish says that the police have not registered the case under the appropriate section. Along with this, there is also an allegation of changing the complaint. The Mooknayak also heard the police station’s side in this matter. SHO Divya Prakash Tiwari says that all the allegations made are baseless. The police have conducted a fair investigation and taken action in this matter. In this case, SP Jalaun Iraj Raja said that the journalist was being wrongly implicated. The police took impartial action and sent the accused to jail. The allegations made by the journalist against the police are baseless.

Many cases have come to light earlier also

Last December 2023, the MP MLA Court of Bhind District and Sessions Court of Madhya Pradesh had issued an arrest warrant against BJP MLA Narendra Singh Kushwaha in a similar case. A case is registered against him in Bhind’s Dehat police station for illegally confining a Dalit man, Baburam Jamour, to beating him and insulting him by commenting on his caste. In this, four people including the present Congress MLA from Gohad, Keshav Desai, were made accused. In this, a person named Ramlakhan has died during the hearing. This case was of 2015. When it was time for elections of District Panchayat members in Bhind. At that time, Baburam Jamour also wanted to file his nomination as a member from Ward 6, Jawasa. From here, Mithlesh Kushwaha, wife of Bhind MLA Narendra Singh Kushwaha, was preparing to file her nomination. Bhind MLA Narendra Kushwaha, Gohad MLA Keshav Desai and his supporters kidnapped Baburam Jamour from the beach market, took him to the forest and beat him fiercely and also insulted him.

In May 2023, a Dalit youth from Neemuchana village of Bansur in Alwar district of Rajasthan was held hostage by two youths and ransom was demanded. The accused stripped the young man and beat him up and also made a video. In the name of ransom, the accused had threatened to make the video viral on social media if the victim did not sign the agreement of Rs 1.50 lakh. Police had registered a case under other sections including SC-ST and arrested both the accused from Mothuka village of Banasur.

What do the figures say?

The NCRB report also shows that there has been no reduction in the oppression of Dalits. According to the NCRB report, 57,582 cases were registered under crimes against Scheduled Castes (SC) in 2022. Whereas in 2021 it was only 50,900. Most of the cases were registered under the category of simple injuries. Their number is 18,428. After this, 5,274 cases have been registered under ‘criminal intimidation’ and 4,703 cases under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Uttar Pradesh is on top in terms of such crimes. A total of 15,368 cases were reported in 2022. Whereas in 2021 there were 13,146 cases.
