Chhattisgarh: Family searching for treatment of rape survivor daughter, serious allegations against police and hospital management
The tribal family said, “The daughter was raped and burnt with acid.” Police registered a case against the two accused and sent them to jail.

Raipur. A tribal girl, who was allegedly a survivor of gang rape and acid attack five months ago, is now searching for treatment. The victim’s leg is completely damaged due to burns, due to which the family is now appealing to the government for treatment for their daughter. At the same time, the negligence of the police and district hospital management is being blamed for the daughter’s condition.
Actually, the incident took place last year in Baikunthpur police station area of Koriya district, where the accused first raped a 19-year-old tribal girl, then poured acid on the girl’s body in an unconscious state, due to which the girl got badly burnt. The victim told the police that she had become friends with Milesh Yadav through a friend and they used to talk on the phone. On October 8, 2023, accused Milesh had called the girl to visit the fair. Both the people had gone to a fair in another village by bike. The accused then took her to a tank outside the village, where the accused raped the girl.
The victim told that after the incident, as it was late at night, she slept there under the Mahua tree. When she woke up in the morning, Miles had run away from there. And there was a burning sensation in his legs, back and feet. When he saw, there were blisters on his feet. The victim girl gathered courage and went to the village doctor, after which she was admitted to the district hospital.
After 20 days of treatment here, the girl was asked to be referred to Raipur but the family members brought her to her home in Baikunthpur. When there was no improvement in the girl’s condition, she was admitted to Raipur AIIMS. After a few days of treatment, AIIMS also referred him to another hospital. Presently the victim is undergoing treatment in a private hospital.

The estimated cost of treating the girl in a private hospital is Rs 27 lakh. The family appealed to the government for help, but no help was received. After this, people of the tribal community collected money for the treatment of the girl.

The victim alleges that the accused had poured acid on her while she was sleeping. But this has not been confirmed by the doctor, nor is the incident of acid attack recorded in the FIR, but the victim along with her family members allege that the accused Miles Yadav used any substance like acid to kill her after the rape. Poured on the girl’s body. According to the police, no such incident was reported by the victim.
While talking to The Mooknayak, a relative of the victim said that the police and District Hospital Korea have been negligent in this matter. The victim and his family members are not educated, hence the police have taken appropriate action to suppress the case.
The victim’s family members allege that when Korea District Hospital did not have a burn unit and doctors, then why was she treated here for twenty days. Why was he not referred to a trauma center earlier?
Baikunthpur police station in-charge Vishal Kujur told The Mooknayak that in October 2023, a girl had come to his police station with a complaint. The victim, who had complained of rape by her lover, had not informed about the acid attack. In this case, we registered zero FIR and transferred it to Kharagwan police station. Because the area of the incident now comes under Kharagwan police station only.
Here, Khadgawan police station in-charge Ramnayan Gupta said that we have submitted the charge sheet in the court in the case. Our investigation has revealed that the girl and the accused were in love. On the request of the accused, the girl had gone with him, the accused Milesh had raped her on the pretext of marriage. When both of them left home in the morning, they fell into a trap laid to trap animals, due to which both of them were injured. The complainant did not reveal any evidence of acid attack during investigation. Police station in-charge said that a case of rape has been registered against the accused and he has been sent to jail, along with this, another youth who cooperated with the accused in this incident has also been sent to jail.
Tribal organizations demonstrated
Tribal organizations have also demonstrated in Korea for justice and government help to the tribal girl. The organization alleges that this incident had come up during the elections, due to which the police tried to suppress the incident. Due to the negligence of the hospital management, the condition of the victim is critical. Social organizations have demanded from the government to provide proper compensation and better treatment to the victim’s family.
