Two arrested over rape, attempted rape charges

Two persons were arrested yesterday over rape and attempted rape charges in Jashore and Patuakhali, according to reports from our correspondents.
In Jashore, the accused was identified as Shahriar Rahman Raju, 25, a resident of Ektarpur village in Abhaynagar upazila.
According to the case statement, Raju raped an 18-year-old girl multiple times, promising to marry her. But he finally refused to marry the girl.
On Friday night around 10:30pm, the victim filed the case against Raju with Kotwali Police Station, said Inspector (investigation) Kazi Babul.
The accused was arrested around 4:00am yesterday from his residence, he said.
In Patuakhali, police detained a man on the charge of attempting to rape a nine-year-old girl child yesterday. The accused — Sohag Hawlader, 25 — is from Dumki upazila.
Police and locals said the girl was returning home from a local madrasa around noon. On her way, Sohag forcibly took her to a nearby bush and attempted to rape her.
At that time, an auto-rickshaw driver noticed the incident and raised an alarm. Nearby people rushed to the spot and caught Sohag.
Later, locals handed Sohag over to police. The process of filing a case was underway, said Dumki Police Station OC Mohammad Selim Uddin.
