Uttar Pradesh: Caste abuses and threat to run away from the locality, Dalit widow lodged FIR

Bareilly. A case of attempt to rape a Dalit woman by entering her house has come to light in Bareilly district of UP. The woman alleges that an attempt was made to forcefully have physical relations with her. When she protested, the accused spat on her face. At present, the police have registered a case based on the woman’s complaint. The police is investigating the matter
The entire matter is of Baradari police station area of Bareilly. The incident happened with Hirakli, a resident of Suresh Sharma Nagar. The Media contacted Hirakli. Referring to the Hirakli incident, she says – ‘Ram Singh Gangwar, who lives in my neighbourhood, has been troubling me for the last several years. We belong to a small caste, so he wants us to leave the house. For this he tries to trouble us in many ways. Sometimes he throws water in front of our house, sometimes he throws garbage. When even this doesn’t satisfy him, he throws human excreta into the latrine.
Hirakli says- ‘My husband died in an accident in 2006. I have two sons and a daughter. I am somehow raising my children by working as a labourer. Somehow, by saving money, I started constructing the house. After which his atrocities are increasing. He wants me and my family to sell the house and move away from this place.”
Describing the day of the incident, Hirakli says – ‘I was at home that day. He entered the house and seeing me alone, started molesting me. He tried to rape by force. I started shouting, on this my daughter heard the voice and came out from inside the house. Seeing me screaming, he beat me in front of my daughter. When I protested, they called me casteist words and spat on me. After this he ran away from the spot.
I complained about the whole matter in the police station, but I was not heard. I went to the SP office with my complaint. After which my case was registered, but the police did not take any further concrete steps. Now he is threatening me continuously. In this case, the police have registered a case under sections 323, 504 of IPC and SC/ST Act on the complaint of the victim.
Bhim Army reached the victim’s house
As soon as information about the incident was received, Bhim Army Bareilly reached the victim’s house. Bhim Army’s media in-charge Akash Babu met the victim. He said that the incident is very shameful. Police should take concrete action on this incident. If this does not happen then Bhim Army will take appropriate steps.
In this case, The Media contacted the investigating officer and jurisdictional city. Area officer Bareilly city says- ‘Election time is going on, hence there is more busyness. My clerk has also gone on leave, so there is no information about this incident. The matter will be investigated and concrete action will be taken soon.
