Dalit oppression seen again in MP! Women also chased them, video goes viral with sticks

Posted on December 1, 2024 by Dalit Times

In Madhya Pradesh, a fight broke out between Dalit Jatav and Lodhi families over a land dispute. In the dispute, both sides, including women, used sticks and rods, the video of which went viral on social media. The police have registered a case of breach of peace and assault against 11 people from both sides and started investigation. The police say that this is only a land dispute, while the Jatav family is calling it a conspiracy of the bullies.

MP News: A land dispute took a violent turn in Dulhi village of Bhaunti police station area of Shivpuri district. On Friday, there was an argument between Lodhi and Jatav families, which soon turned into a fight. The video of the incident is becoming increasingly viral on social media, in which both the parties are seen raining sticks on each other. The shocking thing was that women also played an active role in this conflict. They were also seen attacking and chasing each other with sticks.

Old conflict, new violence

The dispute between the two families is over a small piece of land in front of the house. The Dalit Jatav family alleges that the Lodhi family is trying to occupy their land. The Jatav family says that they have been living on this land for many generations, but the Lodhi family breaks their peace and quarrels with them every day. On Friday, this quarrel started over the issue of keeping fodder, which escalated from abuse to lathi charge.

Suppression of bullies or a normal fight? Police’s side

After the incident, the Bhaunti police station in-charge said that this matter is about the ownership of a small piece of land between two families. The police have registered a case against both the parties under breach of peace and assault. Action has been initiated against five people of the Jatav family and six people of the Lodhi family. However, the police say that this matter is only about a land dispute and there is no angle of “Dalit vs Dabangg” in it.

Such cases arise repeatedly

This is not the first incident in Shivpuri district. Just a few days ago, a case of a Dalit youth being beaten to death by a powerful sarpanch came to light in the district. This incident created deep resentment in the area. In such a situation, this new case of Dulhi village can further deepen the feeling of fear and insecurity for the Dalit community.

Tension in the area, injured admitted to hospital

Many people from both the sides have been injured in this conflict and have been admitted to the hospital. There is a tense atmosphere in the village and the police is keeping an eye on the situation. Locals say that this dispute should be resolved soon, otherwise it can take a bigger form.

Solution needed

These controversies arising repeatedly in Shivpuri have raised the question of how to stop such incidents. It is the responsibility of the administration and the police to not only conduct a fair investigation but also take concrete steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
