Elderly man arrested over child rape in Gazipur
60-year-old man allegedly raped six-year-old girl in Kashimpur, Gazipur
Police have arrested an elderly man on charges of raping a six-year-old girl in the Kashimpur area of Gazipur city yesterday.
The arrested man was identified as Oli Ahmed, 60, from Faridganj upazila of Chandpur district. He was a tenant in a house in the South Jarun area.
The victim’s mother filed a case with Kashimpur Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act last night.
Citing the case statement, Kashimpur Police Station Inspector Tariqul Islam told The Daily Star that the incident occurred around 11:00am on yesterday, when the accused allegedly took the girl to a tenant’s room in the same house and raped her.
The child was later taken to a safe zone, where medical tests and further investigation are underway, he said.
Sub-Inspector Md Shafiqul Islam, who is investigating the incident, said Oli Ahmed would be produced before a court later in the day today.
