UP: Threat to leave the village, atrocities on Dalit family and plea for justice

Posted on December 1, 2024by Dalit Times

In UP, a Dalit family was threatened to leave the village. A woman named Sangeeta alleged that her son Nikhil was beaten up after being subjected to casteist slurs. After filing a complaint with the police, the accused threatened the family and entered the house and behaved indecently. The family is still scared and is pleading for justice.

UP: The incident that happened with a Dalit family living in Bhatawali village of Civil Lines area has exposed the deep truth of caste discrimination and atrocities in the society. Sangeeta, wife of village resident Hargyan Valmiki, told the story of atrocities being committed against her family. Sangeeta says that when her son Nikhil was standing on the road outside his house, Kamal, his brother Arvind, father Ratan Singh, Shivam and Pankaj of the same village came there. They not only beat up Nikhil, but also insulted him by calling him casteist words. This incident became a cause of embarrassment and fear for them.

Violence increased after complaint

Hoping for justice in this case, Sangeeta filed a complaint in Civil Lines police station. But this courage had the opposite result. The accused considered this complaint as an attack on their reputation and started threatening the family. Sangeeta told that after filing the complaint, she started receiving threats. The accused said, “You did not do well by complaining. Now leave the village, otherwise the consequences will be bad.”

Women also entered the house and misbehaved

The situation became even more serious when Madanpal’s wife Munni Devi, Kamal’s wife Jyoti and Arvind’s wife Nidhi entered Sangeeta’s house and behaved indecently. They not only used abusive words but also mentally harassed the family. This incident is a matter of serious concern not only for Sangeeta’s family but also for the society.

Police registered a case, but the fear remains

CO Civil Lines Arpit Kapoor said that on the basis of the victim’s complaint, a case has been registered against the accused under various sections including assault, threat and SC-ST Act. However, Sangeeta and her family are still scared. The question that is echoing in their minds is whether they are safe in their own village?

When will caste discrimination end?

This incident is not just the story of one family, but a reflection of the evil practices prevalent in the society, in which caste discrimination and atrocities still continue. Sangeeta and her family have appealed for justice in this case, but the question is whether their voice will be heard properly? Will they get their rights, or will they be forced to leave the village?

The fight for justice and the responsibility of society

This incident is a warning to every person in the society that if voice is not raised against caste discrimination, then this problem will deepen further. It is important that the administration takes strict action in this case and provides security to the victim’s family. At the same time, the society will also have to change its mindset and make efforts to give equal rights to people of every caste.
