Atrocity on Dalit woman: Unruly people burnt the hut of Dalit woman, family in panic, police accused of negligence

In Gyanpur’s Kaida village, some rowdy youths set a Dalit woman’s residential hut on fire, destroying goods worth thousands. When the victim protested, she was beaten and abused. It is alleged that the police is in cahoots with the accused and is not taking any action, due to which the family is scared. The victim has pleaded for justice and protection.
UP: A serious case of caste tension and high-handedness of anti-social elements has come to light in Kaida village of Suriyawan police station area of Gyanpur. On Saturday night, some unruly youths of the village set fire to the residential hut of Dalit woman Photu Devi, wife of late Kamlesh Saroj. In this incident, goods worth thousands of rupees including cot, grain, children’s clothes kept in the hut were burnt to ashes. The victim’s family says that for the past few days, some people of the village were threatening them to move from there. When these anti-social elements were opposed, they not only committed arson, but also abused and beat up the people.
Police has not taken any action till now
After the incident, the victim Shanti Devi filed a complaint in Suriyawan police station and pleaded for justice, but it is alleged that the police has not taken any action till now. The victim said that she lives with her family in a kutcha house and a hut in the colony. Anti-social elements came to the spot on Saturday night and burnt down her residential hut. After this incident, the family is in panic and is feeling pressure to leave the village.
Residents say:
Local residents say that the police are in cahoots with the opposition party and are deliberately trying to hush up the case. Even after the incident, no accused has been arrested, which has left the victim’s family even more terrified.
Victim’s allegation:
The victim alleges that due to the apathy of the police administration, the accused are roaming freely and there is a threat to their life and property. The victim has pleaded for justice and security, demanding intervention of the higher authorities in the case. This incident highlights the growing violence and feeling of insecurity towards Dalits.
This incident has created an atmosphere of tension in the area. Social organizations and Dalit rights groups have also expressed strong displeasure over this matter and have demanded immediate action from the police administration. Given the seriousness of the matter, questions are being raised on the local administration and police.
