Vijayawada: A delegation of YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders, including MPs M Gurumurthy, Golla Babu Rao, Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose and former MPs Margani Bharat and Gorantla Madhav, met National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) chairman Kishore Makwana and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) chairperson Vijaya Bharati Sayani in New Delhi on Monday. The delegation raised the issue of alleged mistreatment of Dalit youth Puli Sagar by the Rajamahendravaram police.
Puli Sagar, who arrived with YSRCP leaders, shared the incident that happened with him before the commission.
Sagar alleged that he was summoned to the Prakash Nagar police station in connection with a social media post in which he questioned TDP MLA Adireddy Srinivas’ flood relief claims. According to Sagar, he was verbally abused at the police station, stripped and locked in a cell where women constables were posted. He also alleged that Inspector SK Baji threatened to kill him.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, YSRCP leaders strongly condemned the incident.
The leaders said, “The violation of Puli Sagar’s fundamental rights, including the right to life and freedom of expression, is not only serious but also a symbol of abuse of power in a democratic society. Such acts are unacceptable and must be addressed immediately.”
The Commissions assured the delegation that they would look into the matter and take necessary action.
