Rajasthan: Dalit youth murdered in a minor dispute! Know the whole incident..

Posted on December 11, 2024 by Dalit Times

In Rajasthan, Dalit youth Vishna Ram Meghwal was stabbed to death after a minor altercation. After the incident, anger spread in the town. People took to the streets and staged silent protests and demonstrations, demanding the arrest of the accused and justice. The accused Harshdan Charan is a history-sheeter, for whose arrest the police have formed teams. Heavy police force is deployed amid tension in the area.

Rajasthan:  A minor dispute in Nehru Colony in Balotra, Rajasthan on December 10 took the form of a heartbreaking incident. Vishna Ram son of Sanwala Ram Meghwal, who was a tent and light worker by profession, had come to pack his belongings after the wedding ceremony. His vehicle was parked outside the house, and he had an argument with the accused Harshdan Charan over removing it. The dispute suddenly took a violent turn, and Harshdan attacked Vishna Ram with a knife. The injured youth was taken to the hospital, but he died during treatment.

Anger and protest in the town after the murder

The incident sparked outrage in the entire area. People from the Dalit community and other organisations took to the streets and started protesting. The family and supporters of the deceased took out a silent procession on the streets of Balotra demanding the immediate arrest of the accused and justice. Prominent personalities like former MLA Madan Prajapat, Pradhan Bhagwat Singh, and Tararam Mehla joined the protesters.

Huge crowd and deployment of police force at the protest site

At the protest site, the relatives of the deceased refused to carry out the postmortem and lift the body. The administration tried to convince them repeatedly, but the protesters remained adamant on their demands and expressed deep resentment towards the police administration. In view of the tension in the area after the incident, heavy police force and RAC personnel were deployed under the leadership of Balotra DSP Sushil Maan and Siwana DSP Neeraj Sharma.

Accused Harshdan Charan: History sheeter of Balotra police station

The accused in the case, Harshdan Charan, is a notorious history-sheeter of Balotra police station. Several cases of attempted murder, robbery, and assault are already registered against him. After the incident, the police identified him on the basis of CCTV footage and SP Kundan Kanwaria formed 10 special teams and started searching for the accused. The police has released the picture of the accused and appealed to the general public to immediately inform if they get any clue.

Demand for justice and tense atmosphere

The murder of the deceased youth Vishna Ram has plunged the entire Balotara town into grief and anger. Vishna Ram had got married a few months ago, due to which the family is in even more shock. A large number of people have gathered outside the mortuary since the incident. The protesters have made it clear that until the accused is not arrested, they will not cremate the body.

Challenging situation for administration

This case has become a challenge for the police and administration. Along with maintaining peace in Balotra, ensuring immediate arrest of the accused has become the priority of the administration. This incident has raised serious questions about the atrocities being committed against the Dalit community. People are demanding strict action and justice from the administration, while the police is keeping an eye on the situation.
