A youth in Tangail’s Mirzapur upazila was sent to jail today for hurting religious sentiment in a Facebook post.
The accused, Tajul Islam, 27, of Duilla Begum Modhyopara village, was arrested early today, said Mosharaf Hossain, officer-in-charge of Mirzapur Police Station.
“Acting on information from locals, joint forces arrested Tajul from Bhatgram village. Locals claimed they detained him after he posted a photo on Facebook a couple of days ago that hurt religious sentiment,” the OC said.
The law enforcers later examined Tajul’s phone and found evidence supporting the allegation, he added.
Salahuddin Ahmed, inspector (Investigation) of the police station, said Mirzapur police produced Tajul before a Tangail court in the afternoon after filing a case under Section 295/295 (Ka) of the Cyber Security Act.
The court later sent him to jail, he added.
