Telangana: Hours after the body of a Dalit man was found near a canal along the Musi river in Suryapet district, police late on Monday night registered a case against four persons, including his father-in-law, brother-in-law and one of their friends.
Krishna, who was 32 and belonged to the Scheduled Caste (SC) Mala community, was found dead near the canal bank of the Musi river near Pillalamarri on Monday morning.
Suryapet police have registered a case against Krishna’s wife Kotla Bhargavi’s father Kotla Saidulu, her brothers Kotla Naveen and Kotla Vanshi and their friend Bairu Mahesh based on a complaint by their father David.
David has alleged that his son was killed in ‘honour’. The four accused have been booked under sections 103(1), 61(2), r/w 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS) and section 3(2)(v) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
David, a church pastor, said in his complaint that the accused, who belong to the Backward Class (BC) Gaud community, conspired and killed his son. He cited Krishna’s inter-caste marriage six months ago as the reason for the murder.
N Balu Nayak, sub-inspector, Suryapet rural police station, said, “Bhargavi and David have alleged that Saidulu, Naveen and Vanshi are behind Krishna’s murder. Two attempt to murder cases are registered against Krishna at Suryapet town police station and four similar cases are registered against Naveen. We are investigating all angles. We will arrest the culprits soon. Four suspects are absconding.”
Nayak said that Krishna and Naveen were friends, and Krishna was in love with Naveen’s sister Bhargavi. Despite opposition from Naveen’s family, the two got married while Bhargavi’s family was looking for a groom for her. Since their marriage, they had been staying at Krishna’s house in Mammillagadda for the past six months.
On Sunday evening, their common friend Bairu Mahesh called Krishna and he left the house without informing anyone.
