Chennai: YouTuber Savukku Shankar on Tuesday alleged that his house was vandalised in retaliation for exposing an alleged scam in the distribution of vehicles fitted with jet-routing machines to Dalit entrepreneurs. Shankar claimed that the scheme, funded by both the Centre and state governments, was meant to benefit poor Dalits and those below the poverty line.
I exposed a scam in the distribution of vehicles equipped with jet-routing machines to Dalit entrepreneurs. The scheme is sponsored by both the central and state governments. It is meant for poor Dalits and sanitation workers, but most of the beneficiaries are above the poverty line, Shankar
However, Shankar claimed that many of the 130 beneficiaries were actually above the poverty line.
He said, “While the government scheme is meant for poor Dalits who are below the poverty line as entrepreneurs, most of the beneficiaries, around 130 beneficiaries in the scheme, are above the poverty line”.
Following his revelations, Shankar alleged that the Chennai city police have filed an FIR against him.
He said, “After I exposed this scam, the Chennai city police filed an FIR… After failing in their attempt to book me for exposing this scam, they resorted to this method… I directly accuse TNCC president K. Selvaperunthagai as the person who organised this attack.”
The case was transferred to the CBCID following allegations by Suvukku Shankar against the Greater Chennai Police and the Police Commissioner.
According to a release the police said, “TR. Shankar @ Savukku Shankar, YouTuber and son of petitioner TMT. Kamala in an interview made certain allegations against Greater Chennai Police and Commissioner of Police. Therefore, Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai Police requested to transfer the said CSR to some other agency for investigation.
